No claims discount is one of the most important features of any Motor insurance policy and here we will take a minute to explain the concept in full. Basically it is a discount that you receive on your Motor insurance premium as a reward for not having made a claim against your policy.

You need to build up a claim free driving history in your name to benefit from the discount so you can’t get one when you first start driving. A No claims bonus usually remains on the type of policy, for instance if you have a car no claims bonus and want to use it on a van policy then you would need to explain this to your provider before you claim your discount as it may not be acceptable. Usually your no claims bonus can only be used on one policy at any one time.

There is no standard discount offered across all insurers but in general you get a discount for claim free driving. If you do have to make a claim this may mean that you have to forsake your entire NCD or your insurance company may scale back your discount If you are involved in an accident for which you are not liable then if your insurer is able to recover the cost of paying out to you from the liable driver’s insurer then your no claim bonus will not be affected.

If you change your car insurance provider you can often bring your no claim discount from your former insurer with you to reduce the overall cost of your premiums.

In the event of an Employers Liability(EL) claim it is important to be able to quickly identify the companies at which the claimant has worked. It is not uncommon for an EL insurance claim to be made years after the alleged event, so finding the relevant company’s insurer can be both time-consuming and problematic.

Having ERNs on file will make this process more efficient and ultimately make life easier for both claimants and insurers.

The searches for employers’ liability insurers are carried out by an independent body called the Employers’ Liability Tracing Office (ELTO). They use a centralised database of ERNs and information about EL policies to track down and match up relevant insurers to claimed-against companies.

As an employer with EL insurance, you stand to benefit if you’re faced with a claim. The ELTO will be able to demonstrate quickly and unequivocally that you had the insurance at the time the claimant was employed by you. This would mean that your insurer picks up the bill.

The driving history of yourself and the additional drivers that you wish to name on your policy will have a significant affect on your overall premium so we have chosen to request copies of all driving licences to cross-check the information that you’ve provided. You need to provide us with colour or black and white copies of the counterpart (paper) licence for all drivers named on the policy. Please note that you should not send the originals as most insurers will not be held accountable should it get lost in the post.

If you licence is registered at an old address we will accept a copy of two utility bills (within the last 3 months) confirming your current address together with your driving licence at your old address. Once you receive your new driving licence from the DVLA, please send this to us.

A Premium Finance agreement (sometimes commonly referred as Direct Debits) are not linked to the terms your policy. The principle of insurance is that you pay your premium in full at the start of the policy. Obviously nowadays that isn’t always possible as a separate finance agreement would be needed in order to spread the payments. The finance agreement has to always be paid for in full irrespective of whether or not you cancel your policy. The refund received from your policy is usually used towards the balance of your finance agreement but not policies offer a proportionate refund to the time left on the policy, in addition there are cancellation fees as well. So a lot of the time in order to clear the finance you may still need to pay some more money.

As an example of how the process works, should you buy a motor vehicle and arrange vehicle finance the finance still needs to be paid irrespective of how fast the vehicle’s value depreciates when you come to sell it or if its written off the insurance pay out may not be enough to cover the outstanding finance so you would need to pay the difference in order to clear the finance.

Landlords face a great deal of risk when leasing or renting out their properties. Typical risks include loss of rent or rental value in case of fire or other serious incidents. Fortunately, a landlord can take advantage of rent loss insurance to protect against loss of rental income and rental value. A lot of Landlords do think that this covers payments not made by existing tenants, this is not the case.

On Occasion we would require a copy of a recent utility bill in order to establish your correct residential address. We would usually request these if your drivers licence has a differing address on it.

Unfortunately cancelling an insurance policy does require an element of administration and the administration cost is purely to cover those costs. We do not refund our commission as this was for setting up the policy in the first place.

Not necessarily, this is a common misconception, you can only drive a vehicle that doesn’t belong to you IF your motor insurance certificate states you can. Please do not presume otherwise.

Tools are not normally covered in your van insurance policy but cover can be obtained in some circumstance’s under your Tradesmans Liability policy.

If you made an insurance claim and your excess was £200, then all this means that you have to pay the first £200 of the claim yourself ( or it will be deducted directly from your settlement). Most policies have a compulsory excess which is part of the policy, on ocassion you may have an option of increasing your excess which is called a voluntary excess.

An endorsement is a written document attached to an insurance policy that modifies the policy by changing the coverage afforded under the policy. An endorsement can add coverage for acts or things that are not covered as a part of the original policy and can be added at the inception of the policy or later during the term of the policy.

Not usually but always check your policy as ask us.
